Why Doula Support in the DMV
DC has nearly 2x the national maternal mortality rate.
And 90% of pregnancy-related deaths in DC are among Black birthing people.
4 out of 5 pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
Prenatal care and education are critical for a healthy mom and healthy baby. But too often, this care is inaccessible or prohibitively expensive.
In the DMV, doula care can cost between $1,500-$3,000, making this service out of reach for too many.
We’re working to change that. Our volunteer doulas provide care at $0 to the birthing person.
